I had the opportunity to spend some time while on vacation to stop and have dinner with my good friend Art Schilling … aka: East Coast Artie. Growing up in NJ he been a name to follow in the lettering and pinstriping since the 60’s. After spending a evening with him and his wife over 40 years Linda and listening to his travels I’m amazed on the accomplishments he has fulfilled. Artie did his first professional' striping job that he got $5.00 for it on a '51 Chevy when he was 13 years old. While attending HS he moved on to letter a '58 Pontiac in the high school parking lot. Besides getting stated using a brush he worked as rock band roadie, semi-professional drag racer, and bartender, before settling back into the sign painter/pinstriper business. His sign shops have been established in New Jersey, Colorado, and Pennsylvania, and South Carolina Besides the sign business he been a technical sales rep for some of the biggest sign and lettering companies doing seminars on their products. In his spare time he finds time to Run Pinstriping Auctions to raise money for charities, cruise car shows, dabble in music and drawing he is man who does not stop.
The shop is also share by Airbrush artist Jimmy Jackson has been airbrushing for little over 20 years locally. Started out of high school doing t-shirts on the beach. Ended up with a set up in the Surfside WalMart. When his contract expired he started working for a local custom body shop in 2000. Artie moved in across from Jimmy around 2001 and became a huge influence in making him go out on my own. They ended up as next door neighbors until around 2008-2009, when they both moved into a place together. Both have been fighting crime ever since in the Myrtle Beach area. If you're ever travel thru Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, stop by because his door is always open !! … What a great time with great company... www.eastcoastartie.com
