The D Lot

Hunger and waste are two very real problems facing Americans of every social level, every day. Over twenty-five years ago, Forgotten Harvest formed, combining two different problems to create a common solution. Last year alone, they rescued 40.9 million pounds of food and delivered it, free of harge, to 280 emergency food providers in the Metro Detroit area and beyond.

At this year's Detroit Autorama, Pilot Transport will present "The D Lot". This will combine the top hot rods in the country with a fundraising raffle featuring over $24,000 in automotive prizes that attendees can win for just a $2 donation.

The Detroit Autorama is considered, by many people, to be the top hot rod show in the country with cars coming from all around the world for their chance at the Ridler Award. For the last eleven years, Pfaff Designs has played a small but significant role in this legacy. Autorama organizers have come to look upon Murray Pfaff for innovative displays that have brought cars in from all across the country and engaged spectators. Beginning two years ago, he assembled a showcase of hot rods and custom cars that featured participating sponsors and highlighted a worthy charity. Known as "The D Lot", it raised over $4,700 in 2014 for Leader Dogs for the Blind and $6,500 last year for Forgotten Harvest.

Detroit Autorama will once again take over a 5400 sq. ft. space with the top custom show cars in the country. Weaver Customs of Salt Lake City will be back with a Cummins powered 1970 'cuda called "Torc". Tom Bailey's fastest street car in America, a 1969 Camaro, will be on display along with the 2002 Corvette DZ06 from Randy Johnson of Milwaukee. In addition, Pfaff Design's supercharged Ram, the Draggin' Wagon, will also be featured along with Vaughn Gitten Jr's 1969 Mustang drift car.

"The D Lot" serves as a fundraising medium that, instead of collecting high bids from a few in a typical auction format, accepts $2-$20+ donations from attendees in a pice-a-prize format for a chance to win one of the many great prizes on display. Forgotten Harvest will collect and handle all of the contributions and have a presence in the display.
