Last year's Ridler Award winner
Each year at Detroit Autorama, one lucky car is chosen for the Ridler Award. Originally, the award was given to the Best Vehicle being shown for the first time. Throughout the years of the award being given, it has been evolved to better conform to new ideas, changing designs, and concepts. Now, the vehicle that best represents creativity, engineering, and quality workmanship will win the Ridler Award.
The original rule still stands true: the vehicle must be making its first public showing at the Detroit Autorama. In addition, the vehicle needs to be minimally operable (must start, stop, move forward and backward under its own power, and turn left and right and stop using the brake pedal) before being placed on the floor for display.
Last year, Don and Elma Voth of Abbotsford, British Columbia took the award for their Chip Foose built 1965 Chevrolet Impala, which they call "The Impostor". See more about the award-winning car here.
This weekend, contenders will take their places on the floor at the Detroit Autorama for their chance to make it into the final round of contenders. The field will be narrowed to eight finalists beginning with elimination on Thursday evening. The award will be sponsored by Chevrolet Performance and will be presented with a cash prize of $10,000 at Detroit Autorama.
Good luck to all who enter!
