My dad and I spent many hours together working on it and fixing it up. We painted it metal flake blue, did the interior in black and white tuck and roll, added white walls. What a cool car for a high school kid. I drove the car to prom, cruised the main street every night, had a ball with that car. After graduation I moved to Denver to go to school, of course I took the coupe too. I spent many nights there cruising 16th Ave in downtown Denver, up and down the streets. In 1964 the old engine was getting tired, my dad called and said there was a brand new car that had been totaled and it had a 260 V-8 in it and I could get it for $250.00. I said great, but I had no money. We decided if I could sell my racing go-cart, I could swing the engine deal. Good plan. We sold it and I had a brand new engine. The car made many shows around Denver and even went to Rapid City, SD a couple of times. It collected many trophies in those years. I got married in 1965, then along came our daughter a year or so later, I took the car apart for one more rebuild and you know the rest of the story, years went by, another child, job transfers to other states and so on. Finally in the middle 70's the car made it back to the streets. But more out of state transfers slowed down the car fun. Finally in 1988 in Connecticut my son drove the coupe to his high school prom. In 2000 I retired and moved to Minnesota. My 40th high school reunion was happening in 2003 so we decided to drive the coupe back to Nebraska for the party. When the classmates asked me if I still had the "old car" I would say yes and it is in the parking lot! That was fun. Our coupe was on display at my grandson's prom in 2006 here in Minnesota. The coupe really likes proms! In January 2007, at the Grand National Roadster Show in California in the "Deuce" building, our coupe was featured on the "HotRodHotlines" screen behind their desk. What a thrill to see our car there! After 46 years, many paint jobs, rebuilds and lots and lots of fun, I still have my very first car.
