Hot Rod Drag Week 2015 is underway and going strong on day four. The week-long event took of on Sunday at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, IL for Tech registration and Test n' Tune runs. Records were broken during the Test n' Tune runs by this Dodge pickup with Twin 88s, a viper motor, giant tires, and 1900+ crank horsepower that broke into the 7-second territory on one of its first passes of the week. This video from www.1320video.com shows the pass:
Day one got off to a sprinting start at Gateway Motorsports Park on Monday with even more records being broken. Jeff Lutz made the fastest-ever Drag Week pass with his Camaro Pro Mod car, running 6.051 at 251 mph. Calvin Hayward broke records in the Super Street Small Block Power Adder class with the fastest run ever at 7.596.
Day two kicked off at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianaplis, IN on Tuesday. Jeff Lutz retired from Drag Week 2015 after a number of failures on the road to Lucas Oil Raceway prevented him from sleeping or arriving to the speedway in time to catch some Z's. The pass of the day was Bryant Goldston'es 6.788 run in his Unlimited Iron 1973 AMC Javelin. Day two was not without its record breaking runs, however. In the Hot Rod class, the fastest-ever ET had changed five times in just the first two days. Currently, the quickest run is 10.282 done by Tim Hall's International truck.
Day three took us to Great Lakes Dragway in Union Grove, WI on Wednesday. Day three resulted in a wave of broken cars, but still lots of successful runs. As of Wednesday, Hall still held the record for the fastest ET in the Hot Rod class, but he came close to beating his own record with a 10.227 second run, only 0.019 off from his previous pass.
Today, the action for day four takes us to Cordova International Raceway in Cordova, IL. We're sure the action today will be as impressive as previous days, and hopefully all contendors have successful trips and runs!
The action will wrap up back at Gateway Motorsports Park for day five and the heads-up event on Friday and Saturday.
