Hot Rod HotLines' Trip
To "Back To The Fifties"
In  St. Paul, Minnesota
June 2002

This years Back To The Fifties show was a blast ! Despite a lack of cooperation from the Weather Gods, Rodders turned out in record numbers. This year totaled 10,400 cars WOW !   And with the downpour that kept up all day Friday, we're sure that all 10,000 were squeezed into the exhibition building where we had our booth.  We were glad to see so many old friends from last year and meet many new friends who were new to our site. We had many people stop to tell us that they had sold their cars on HotRod HotLine this past year.
We have to really admire the MSRA members who put this show on.. Only MSRA could pull off a show that had 6 inches of rain on opening day and still  have 10,400 cars. They did a great job and are always very nice and helpful to those of us exhibiting.
Now . On With The Show.

Because we had rain for almost all of the trip, Jack didn't make his usual side trips looking for treasure. Except in Billings, Mt where that glint of sparkling windshields against a mountainside caught his attention and caused a short hop off the Interstate while he checked to see if it was a junkyard that might have a tail light lens for an '87 Allante.. They didn't ! And they had no old cars either so back onto I-90 we went.

We knew we were in trouble when we ran into this angry sky in the Fargo, North Dakota area. At this point there were actually Tornado warnings !   Not what we wanted to hear !

As we approached Minneapolis on Thursday morning,  we came across our first Rods. This red sedan and the '55 you see ahead.   We knew we were getting close.

Timing Was Off
Just a little on these road shots.
Sorry Guys !

Great looking Wagon. Remember parallel parking those babies !

First car we spot when we get to the hotel is this beautiful '37 Chrysler Airflow owned by Dick Johnson  of  Minnesota.
Dick has just finished this car and this is the first show he's had it to. It's really a work of artbeautiful and very unique.

And YES that is Nitrous you see there !

Sticking with Chrysler.Dick has a Hemi engine in this compartment.

Air Ride Suspension gives it that low cool look  GREAT CAR !

Also at the hotel was this custom '58 Cadillac owned by Ken and Mary Ann Endicott of Newnan, Georgia.   They drove their car to the show along with their friends with the '60 Caddy , Kelly and Sarah Puckett from Stockbridge, Georgia. Nice Cars !

And here on Thursday. Blissfully unaware of what Fridays weather would bring there were  rodders lined up to wash their cars and get them show ready...
