Hi All
The 1st Annual Cumberland Run in Monteagle, TN, August 29 thru September 1, 2003, was billed as "a weekend full of greasy hair, cuffed jeans, scuffed boots, dirty fingernails, cruisin', dancin', and rockin'" hosted by the TN Chapter of the Confederate Street Association.  Kustom Kulture is Key, Driver are King and Trailered cars are forbidden.  These guys put together a trip back in time over a 4-day weekend that started with a cruise to the world famous Jack Daniel's distillery and ended with a parade through town high atop Monteagle mountain.  A lot of rodders in the surrounding areas were confused as to what this show was all about.  The Rock-a-billy thing hasn't really caught on in this small part of the world, but we're spreading it as best as we can.  Along with it being Labor Day weekend, the attendance was down for this first ever run.  It's getting to where you have car shows everywhere--every weekend, so it's impossible to see them all.  For anyone interested in checking out this show next year (I hope that will be a lot of you) their current web site is www.cumberlandrun.com.  This site contains information about the 2003, so maybe they'll keep and keep us updated there on the 2004 run.  My very first picture tells the whole story, in one shot, of what this show is all about.  We didn't get to join in until Sunday due to bad weather in our area, even though it stayed dry all weekend on the mountain.  We joined in during the cruise to Grundy Lake.  We only knew a couple of the guys when we drove up, but after spending 5 hours spinning tales and eating watermelon, we all became close friends.  Those 5 hours actually seemed more like just a few minutes and we were off driving back to Jim Oliver's Smoke House Restaurant and Lodge, where the bands would fire up later that evening.  Saturday and Sunday nights featured Rock-a-billy, Hillbilly and Bluegrass bands the likes of Jen Jones of the Camaros, Brian Parton, Piney Ridge, Roman Self, the Cumberland Runners and more.  We didn't leave until close to midnight Sunday and the bands were still going strong.  Thanks to the C.S.A. for a great weekend that we hope will grow into one of the top shows in this area.  Hope to see more people there next year.  In the meantime, look for a new magazine from this area to hit the stands at the end of September titled Ol' Skool Rodz.  They will cover this type of lifestyle and have everyone better prepared for next years run.  Now, on with the show...Butch!!!
