Hey Gang, The NSRA Nationals are now history, and let me tell you, Minnie and I enjoyed this year more than any I can remember, mainly because the temps were very comfortable, we had a great weekend. To begin with, there were nearly 12,000 street rods registered and we saw so many old friends, the entire weekend seemed to pass by like a blur, before we knew it, it was time to pack up and leave. We spent a lot of time with our dear friends Jack and Mary Ann Lawford who almost seems like family. There was so much going on that I don’t quite know where to start. I would like to say Thank You to our great friends Paul Clephas and Gene Harrington who own and operate the LaQuinta Airport Expo Inn on Preston Hwy. On Friday night, they threw a great Barbecue Dinner for all the Street Rodders staying there, for the second consecutive year and we all had a great time. After the dinner, our friend Austin Parker had a birthday party for his beautiful wife, Janet, she just turned 21, or so Austin said, personally I don’t think she was that old, anyway Austin brought out the Cake and everyone had Birthday cake for dessert. Anyway thank you Paul and Gene and we look forward to seeing you again next year. Many times you heard me voice my praise for the MHRA, well this year they came to my rescue when we had problems with the carb on Minnie’s Dodge. Al Tawse and Bill jerked that carb off and Bill put a new Carb Kit in and had it purring like a kitten in no time, while I swapped BS stories with Art and Ed. I’m telling you these guys are the greatest, and to repeat my earlier statements, these guys are the true Unsung Heroes of our sport. Afterward Jack Lawford and myself hung out and admired all the good deeds these guys were doing. MHRA my hat is off to you, thank you and may God bless you all. And while I’m on a serious note here, I would like to say a couple of words about another great street rodder. Al Cook started telling me about a Miller Welding employee by the name of Roger LeClare who had spent the last 12 years building a super nice ‘48 Dodge Pickup and after finishing it became ill and could not make it to the Nats. Well Al and myself went over to the Miller Booth and there they had big banners with Rogers Dodge Pickup and it was a work of art, so I had to get some pics and after talking to Al and Wayne I felt like I personally knew Roger. Roger and Bonnie always know that Minnie and My prayers are always with you. God Bless You. Boyd Coddington’s crew from The American Hot Rod TV show were there and Minnie and I being great fans just had to stop by and talk to them and get a few pics. It seems so much happened this weekend, I could go on and on, but I’ll get back to business, and the first and foremost item on that list is who won the prestigious Minnie’s Pick Award. Well after losing considerable sleep, Minnie finally decided the award should go to none other than Mark Heflin with his beautiful ‘34 Sedan. With having said all that, let’s see some pics. See everyone at the Frog Follies in Evansville, IN. Jack!!!
