Hi All
Its 9 am on a Saturday morning in early Spring.  The weather man says its going to be a dandy day. The club is at the park. The PA set is up and Surf City is reverberating through the trees. There are ranks of trophies neatly displayed on a couple of tables and another one holds some really neat door prizes.  Underneath there is a pile of goodie bags and the air has the scent of a barbecue grill warming up.  Its car show time! The assembled members are anxious. They have worked long hours to make this show a success. All that is needed are the cars.  If you are a car club member you have been there once or twice. And most likely your anxiety has been rewarded with an armada of good cars and a pastel of appreciative spectators. But last year the North East Arkansas Street Rod Associations show, an event that always drew 80 plus cars, was something of a disappointment. There were literally more host club cars than entrants.  Obviously the tried and true formula needed some work.  The objective of previous shows had been raising money for charity. The Club voted to change the objective to a good time for all and for entrants in particular.  With this goal in mind the Club decided to pay cash in conjunction with the most prestigious awards and to limit recognition to the Top 25 entrants regardless of class.
And for those who did not win a coveted plaque there was the opportunity to win one of the $50 and $100 cash prizes included in the frequent door prize drawings. And, of course, free food for entrants and club members. Did it work? Well, the first positive indication came at the poker run the evening of April 3rd.  Sixty cars showed up. In addition to folks from Arkansas, there were cars from Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, and one from Georgia.  The word was out! The next day 120 entrants gathered at the Arkansas State University picnic pavilion for the best show yet. Not only were the numbers up but the quality of the cars, trucks, and bikes was exceptional. What does this all say?  It says the NEASRA is going to do it again next year! You need to make your plans to attend now. Those of you who could not make it this year can get the feel for it all by cruising through the following photos.  Enjoy!  Thats what rodding is all about!
