Hey Gang, We just returned from what we feel was one of the best events we have attended so far this year, the 2nd Annual NHRA Hot Rod Reunion at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, KY. We arrived on Thursday afternoon, got registered and at 5pm went on a Cruise thru downtown Bowling Green and ending at the Beech Bend Amusement Park where admittance and all rides in the Park were free to the people in the Cruise. Needless to say we had a terrific time and spent several hours in the park, it was a beautiful place as you will see by the pics. Then on Friday we went to the Raceway Park which is adjacent to the Amusement Park. Like the Amusement Park, the Raceway Park was in a wooded location with lots of grass and trees, and believe me it was great, because it got really hot the entire weekend. There were so many things to do, we didnt know where to start, all the old nostalgic drag cars and drivers, seems everywhere we turned we were running into the great names in racing from the era in which I served my time burning up the track. Even ran into some of the guys I ran against. Wow, what a trip down memory lane. I stopped by and talked to Drag Racing Legend Big Daddy Don Garlits for quite some time, my racing days coincided with Big Daddys, I ran front engine dragsters also but never actually ran against Big Daddy, however, I ran into him quite a few times at the tracks. Ohio George Montgomery was there and the list goes on and on. It was a virtual Whos Who of Old Drag Racing Greats. And to look at all the old restored drag cars of which I ran with and a couple I had ran against was absolutely wonderful. AH, those were the days, my friend. I did manage to get a few pics of some of the cars in the staging lanes, I had planned to get a few shots on the starting line but I didnt bring my ear plugs and you know you cant operate a camera with both hands over your ears, and I was so busy looking at all the cars and talking to folks I didnt get to do much on the track. To sum it all up we had a terrific time and we plan to do it again next year. Now to come back to reality from my stroll down Memory Lane, Minnie spent 3 agonizing days trying to decide on a car for her pick, and believe me there were so many nice cars there, Im glad I didnt have to make the choice, but I guess thats why she gets the big bucks, she can handle the pressure better than me, anyway she came up with one and I have to agree it was deserving of the award. The winner of this events Minnies Pick Award is Alan Button, St. Louis, MO., with his all steel 32 Ford 3-Win Coupe, and its a beauty. Now for all our friends we will be in Somerset, KY., for the Somernites Cruise, this coming Saturday, June 26th. We would like to invite all our friends to come and join us. Until then - Keep Kroooozin!!! Jack!!!
