As I stood at the gates of the fair grounds waiting my turn to go thru on a brisk Friday Oklahoma morning, a 31 Model A coupe rumbles by, Black, low & slow, that set the mood for the 3 days of the show. I knew this was going to be a great weekend, Why? Well just inside the gate was a 29 Roadster flaunting a flathead with a set of polished Offy heads with a Offy 2x2 manifold topped off with a pair of Holley 94 carbs , it was just firing up for a cruise around the fair grounds. WOW, What a great sound the Flatty has. The crowd parts as the 29 leaves, Man ! I love Hot Rods, the sound, the look, the smell, and I speak for the thousands of other motor-heads that were here for this great showing. The NSRA is doing a great job in brining Rodders together. This show was no exception With people showing up from Colorado, Illinois, Nevada, & Texas. The long haul winner was from Washington State. Events like this allows the Hot Rodder to show off and the chance to out do each other. If you feel you need to out fit your ride with some of the latest and greatest. There was VDO, Yogi's, Air ride, Billet Specialties, Chassis eng inc. , & Dakota Digital just to name a few. With over 50 commercial vendors, the swap meet and Woman's World its easy to say that there was plenty to do and see , 8 to 80, blind, crippled or crazy there was something there for everyone. This was a great mix of rods , that was made up of mild to wild, radical customs, original classics, pickup trucks and even a Hot Rod Bus. The great memories and pictures that were made and taken at the 2006 NSRA Southwest Street Rod Nationals will linger in the minds of all participants and spectators even beyond when they do it all again this year.
