Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour From Orlando, Florida Up The East Coast to Englishtown, New Jersey June 3-9, 2006 Pictures from Marc Petty 5 Pages
Before I get started let me say this....Outside of my honeymoon I have never, never in my life had a better time on a vacation. I was on an adrenaline high the entire time. Over 4000 cars registered for the tour this year. The car people on the tour and everyone we met along the way were very nice. The people in VA were unbelievably friendly.
We left NJ Tuesday at 5pm to pick up the tour Wednesday in Roanoke , VA. Within 5 minutes of arriving at the Venue we regretted not doing the Long Haul as Hot Rod calls it.
First of many gas stops. This one was on Rte 95 in Delaware.
Pulled into Woodstock, VA on Rte 81 at 11 PM for the night.
Super unleaded in New Jersey runs between $3.05 and $3.25 and higher. This price of $2.89 was a sign of better things to come. The deeper into VA we got, the cheaper the gas was.
The Blue Ridge Mountains.
History!!!
Im trying to get artsy fartsy here. Ill crop out the front tire on this shot and it should make a suitable for framing pic. County Fair photo contest material.
In Woodstock a local told us to get off the interstate and take the roads less traveled. He recommended rte. 11, which was the original one lane north-south interstate. We took that advice and never regretted it. We stumbled upon a gas station in Stuarts Draft, VA that had the personal auto collection of the station owner, Petie Eavers. He charged us $5.00 to look at the cars. It was worth every penny. I only wish the lights in the climate controlled building were brighter so I could have gotten better shots.
Sites of interest traveling south on the off beaten rte. 11. The local that told us to take that road actually said Get off rte. 81. You dont see nuttin on the interstate but interstate. I almost died laughing.
