"One of the highlights of the "Lone Star Round Up" weekend is "Cruising Congress". Austin's Congress Ave. used to be the main highway through Austin and now dead-ends at the State Capitol.
The hot rodders come from all over the country to enjoy the car show and a chance to show off while "Cruising Congress". It starts early in the day and goes on 'til the wee hours of the morning, with literally hundreds of rods and customs cruising and parked along this scenic section of the Old Highway. Austin Police are there only to help the pedestrians cross the street and pretty much tolerate all the activity and un-capped headers. That is unless Hot Rod Larry tries to do a burnout!
"Cruising Congress" draws everything from exotic customs to out and out Rat Rods, and makes me very thankful for digital cameras! I couldn't begin to afford the film!
The Lone Star Round Up began about 6 years ago with 50-60 cars at a High School stadium, and has not quit growing since, and while the Car Show is a big draw, most rodders will tell you that "Cruising Congress" is why they show up every year! Richard "Too Low" Haas
