On Saturday, May 31, 2008 I participated in the El Segundo Education Foundation First Annual Benefit Car Show, sponsored by the Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo, Ca. This was the first car show specifically sponsored by the Automobile Driving Museum and they did a great job organizing and hosting the show. This first show hosted 100 cars, attracted lots of people and raised a substantial amount of money for the charity. The museum was open for visitors as was their 50’s caf� and their research library.
In a related note, this museum is different from any other in that the visitors are encouraged to get up close and personal with the cars. With the help of a docent visitors can sit in the cars as well as request to have the hood or trunk opened for a more in depth look at the car. All cars are kept in full running condition, and on Sunday each week four different cars are brought out to provide visitors with an opportunity to go for a ride and experience first hand what it was like to travel in these classic vehicles. The museum also has a newly developed “drive-in theatre” which is a great place to host a special event.
