This was the 3rd Annual Beach’n 101 Cruise presented by the “US Highway 101 Association”. There is no beginning or end, start and stop wherever you like along the 30 mile distance between Oceanside and La Jolla. All registered cars must be pre-1972 or custom and they get a free T-shirt. Approximately 425 cars registered this year for the event. At 3:00pm the awards were presented and the cash prizes were awarded ($1,000. worth!).

It is so much fun cruising with your friends and their hot rods along this gorgeous stretch of highway. It allows you to enjoy the surroundings while you travel through multiple ocean and valley vistas, in some areas you are just inches from the sand. You’ll go through picturesque small towns like Carlsbad, Leucadia, Encinitas, Cardiff-by-Sea, Solona Beach, and La Jolla with historic buildings, strings of unusual shops, small restaurants, and beach town taverns. Check out interesting places with names like Moonlight Beach, Powerhouse Park, Agua Hedlonda Lagoon, Swami’s, Fletcher Cove Beach, Leucadia Beach, San Elijo Lagoon, and Torrey Pines. If you like to drive your Hot Rod this is your event, and you won’t be alone!

The famous Father and Son team of Rod & Paul Baker from Torrance, CA. On the right, Dad is sporting a ZZ4 Chevy with Tri-power in a ’27 T Zipper. Son Paul is showing a little more “old school” with his ’23 Ford “T” powered by a classic 327 Chevy small block. But they both went with the same wheels?
