I think the La Verne “Cool Cruise”, if not the best, is one of the best car shows in Southern California. Over the last 7 years it consistently delivers a well run, comfortably unique enviroment for some of the highest quality cars in America. Many of these cars come from “Indoor Shows” and are rarely driven on the street. This year the weather was perfect and “D” Street thru the middle of La Verne was a fantastic parking lot! Over 1,150 cool cars crammed in and around historic “Old Town. After most of the cars have been parked, the “Power Parade”, a feature that has been a hit with the crowd, was headed up by a “Gangster Wagon” complete with gangsters & “Tommy Guns”, followed by 30+ mostly Willys and some other bad blown cars driven thru the show to their parking spots. Ear plugs should be considered, but it’s a lot of fun. The Cool Cruise commitment to quality is obvious at “The Intersection” where the cars honored there are spectacular.
Over 10,000 free spectators were treated to lots of great Hot Rods, a good mix of vendors, lots of great food, the best rock & roll band “The Answer”, and the best emcee Dave McClelland, what more could a gearhead want??
This was the first year for the Cool Cruise Chili Cook-Off. It features hot rod personalities in a head to head competition, creating their tasty batches of homemade chili. All proceeds go directly to “Stevens Hope for Children”. The “Best Chili” award went to Fred’s Custom Wiring team and the “Peoples Choice” award went to the Pete Chapouris team. The winners feel Pete Santini and Ron Mangus chickened out. That sounds like a challenge to me!
The Vets of Loma Linda Hospital also received of a portion of the car show proceeds.
Thanks for the Show!
