The March Meet at Famoso/Bakersfield Drag Strip celebrated 50 years of racing March 7-9th. They opened a new era of nostalgia drag racing with the help of NHRA. The NHRA has started a new series called the Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series. The series will help celebrate drag racing the way it used to be. The series schedule has 7 events planned with 3 other affiliated events.
Famoso had more than 20 front engine Top Fuel cars and more than 30 Funny Cars. A full field of 500 + race cars filled the race
track. Both Top Fuel and Funny Car would be cut down to a 16 car field in the end.
Famoso has come a long way from being a auxiliary landing strip during WW2. By the way, it is still out in the middle of nowhere. No new homes near this place. Dean Court
