On the 23rd of August 2008, Mikael Breiding and his wife Lo – MB Motors – had invited his Danish and Swedish friends and customers for a hot rod meeting. The weather was really terrible – it rained cats and dogs all day– but everyone arrived happy, but wet. This year as well as last year both original old cars and hot rods were invited and this is very unusual in Denmark. In Denmark people with original cars thinks that hot rodders are “car-theorists” and hot rodders thinks owners of original cars are “old original-freaks”. This afternoon everybody did have a nice time and enjoyed each others company.
When the guests arrived they were welcomed with a cup of coffee and homemade cake. After some kicking tires, the cars left for a 65 km rod run through the beautiful landscape of Nordsealand. There were 5 stations on the rod run where the participants answered some questions and solved a task. The umbrella was the most important tool that day but no one complained. There was a stop at a local car collector during the rod run where open car drivers could dry a bit, get coffee and look at the collection.
At the end of the run a gas station had offered gas at discount (gas in Denmark was at that time $ 2 per litre!). Many took the chance and bought gas at a lower price and then returned to the shop of MB Motors. It was a run that took 3 hour. The last station was in the shop, and after guessing age and use of very old car parts, the host invited everyone for dinner. There was a lot of food, which was very good, because all participants were hungry.
After dinner it was time to give the prizes away from MB Motors’s Danish and American suppliers. There were prizes for the best, second and third in run rod – a combination of correct answers and task results – and two guys got a prize for coming the longest distance . To couples had chosen to celebrate their anniversary at MB Motors rod run. Both couples got a present and were surprised as well.
When the guests had the last cup of coffee and cake they went to their cars and either took the ferryboat back to Sweden or went to their homes in Denmark.
Thanks to everybody and see you all again next year at MB Motors, Denmark.
