This year's event was very unusual in that it snowed in Tahoe on Thursday, while it rained and hailed in Reno. The high temp on Friday in Reno was an unheard of 72 degrees!!! For a while it looked like we might actually have to buy jackets to make it through the weekend, but it warmed up nicely from Friday thru Sunday.

The freakiest thing that happened this year was when we left Reno to go to Sacramento to catch the flight back to Houston. Last year we got on the freeway for the same trip home and was passed by 4 Mopar vehicles - a Satellite, Roadrunner, Challenger, and a Duster doing very good speed down the freeway. I caught up with them and played caboose all the way to Sacramento, making incredible time. I told a few people about it and called it the "Mopar Express."

This year we got on the freeway from a different hotel, at a different time and different route, and as

soon as I got on the freeway was totally astounded to see 3 of 4 of the same cars zooming along!!! Only the Challenger was missing. We played caboose again and made it to Sacramento in record time. There's no doubt it was the same cars, since the white Satellite lead the pack both times, and the Duster brought up the rear and had a personalized plate. What are the odds of that happening with over 6,500 cars at the event? That's nothing but freaky!!!

The top vehicle in my opinion was Brandon Smith's Great 8 pickup truck that was a Ridler contender two years ago. I'm not sure how the judges arrived at just giving Brandon and his father a ribbon, but the truck should have won the grand prize, but I do understand being a judge is a daunting task.

You will see the Mopar machines flying down the freeway in the pictures. It was all I could do to stay up with them in my rental Impala! Cheers! Jim
