The 27th annual Great Labor Day Cruise at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, CA. was the year of change. The event is now a 2-day event, Monday has been dropped. Campers move-in on Friday and Pre-1978 “Show N’ Shine” cars enter on Saturday and Sunday. The awards ceremony was on Sunday afternoon. Finally, golf carts were not allowed. Global West & Barry’s Speed Shop presented the Road Challenge Auto Cross course free to all entrants. Bob Beck did a great job as announcer and made the contest very popular. The Friday afternoon “Kick Off Party” was an all you can eat buffet with live entertainment provided by the Eliminators Surf Band for $10.95.  The main stage seemed to always have some form of live muisic all day and into the evening. Some of the bands that performed were Sharp Al & his Two Tone Three, 3 Car Garage, Jazz for Jesus, and Rip Carson. The Giveaway vehicle was a Kawasaki 610, 4 x 4 Mule. The weather was a little warm with nice evenings. Almost 200 more Hot Rods than last year gathered, and car friends that may not have seen each other for a year, reunite for 2 days of cruising around the 2 mile cruise route, visiting with old friends, making new friends, checking out some of the 60+ vendors offerings, and generally relaxing. Saturday night a great rock n roll show kept cruisers jumping. The nice cars that were on hand produced over 50 award winners on Sunday. Thanks for the Show!
