Hot Rods and Street Rods started arriving at 8:30am and some were still arriving at 11:00am. It’s the kind of show you decide you want to go to Sunday morning after you wake up. This Pep Boys Classic Car Sunday Car Show was started about 3 months ago. It happens at the Pep Boys Store in Anaheim, CA. on the third Sunday of every month. The entry fee is, everyone’s favorite, FREE and if you get there early enough, so are the coffee and donuts. The awards are big brightly wrapped buckets of car care products. There is a Raffle, a 50/50 and a $2. Drivers

drawing. (the winner got $100.) Several vendors were on-hand including Mother’s products, Prolong Oil products, Len Nordmann Auto Art, Doug Dorr pinstriping and Sam’s Club.  A good mix of different “species” of Rods filled the lot. A dozen “Low & Slow” cruisers from the late 40’s, plenty of big cubic inched Hot Rods, many original classics & trucks were well represented, the 2008 Americas Most Beautiful Roadster was there.

The mood of the show is comfortable and laid-back. The car owners are sitting in small groups by their cars, and spectators seem to find the car variety interesting. Organizer Gary Brown and his crew are doing a great job with this show. It is something to look forward to next month.

Thanks for the Show!

These 2 Hot Rods, the ’32 Ford Roadster & the ’32 Ford 3 window coupe, were both built by Ray Thornton of Garden Grove, CA. He let his Son Ron drive the Coupe this morning. Ray is pictured wiping off his ’32 Roadster, he is 91 years young!!

This doesn’t look like a Japanese import, but it is! Back in 2003 this Olds powered ’30 Ford Sedan was brought from Japan to be shown at the 2003 Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, CA. It was a big hit and won several awards. Chuck & Jeanne Schauwecker of Carson, CA. own this work of art and display it at car shows like this.

Scott Norton brought this amazing rig. The very sharp ‘37 Chevy Coupe is riding on a matching ’53 Ford COE (cab over engine) with an added sleeper. Very Nice!

Jim Baker from Downey, CA. arrived a little late but managed to find a place to park his very sharp 283 Chevy powered, ’29 Ford Roadster Pickup.

This unassuming ’50 Oldsmobile and it’s owner Duke Norton, from Buena Park, CA., have quite the history together. Duke bought the car new in El Centro, CA. and used it to commute to Salinas, CA. In 1955 he, and the Olds, were stationed in the military in Kansas. He and his buddies would do a little street racing in their spare time. They hear that the newly created NHRA is coming to Great Bend, KS. for their first ever National event. Duke enters the Olds and wins his class!! How cool is that?
