The notoriously picky inspection teams of Mickey and Paul on the right hand lift and Jim Smith and T-Man on the left hand lift began filling up inspection sheets with infractions, while the owners of the rods paced nervously around the garage area, and host, Bobby Hohman cracked the whip and had dollar signs in his eyes (for the many factual and fictitious repairs found).................Nah! In reality, there were, as usual, many minor problems brought to light and some fixed on the spot, much to the relief of the Donuts who trusted their cars for safety and fun. Bobby kept things rolling along smoothly and lent his expert eye to any situations that the inspectors were unsure of, while the rest of us practiced the ancient sport of "tire kicking" (short for BS) . We were joined a little after 10:00 am by Chet Beaty and the Mercury Maniacs from the Houston area. They pulled up in a fine group of rods, including 3 nifty '49-'51 Mercs (kinda caught ol' Stan's eye!), a Super nice early Pontiac, a '61 Chevy bubbletop, a '64 Impala, and an almost legendary '37 (?) Chevy coupe that has kicked butt in the quarter mile for nearly 50 years. That's when the stories really began to fly! Hoods were going up, engines started, fingers pointed, and little groups of 3 and 4 hot rodders formed up in every area of Bobby's yard and garage. Right before noon we all saddled up and headed down the road to the Oak Hill Fire Department training tower area for group photos. After several years of trying to get a good group shot, I am finally happy with this years effort. Our thanks to the guys in the Fire Department. After the photo shoot it was back to Hohman Auto Repairs for a fine spread of BBQ brisket, beans, potato salad (by Dan B.) , and 'naner pudding by Art's boss, Carol. Oh, yeah. Art was there.......but not that fine '56!" Too Low
