interested in a seasonal display about the History of Stock Car Racing, but enjoyed the opportunity to visit several other exhibits, but did not in anyway see all the exhibits that the museum offers.
My first stop was to the historic Shell Gas Station, which is the most photographed recreation of a Shell station ever built. Although, the exterior of the station is of modern construction it does resemble an original station. More interesting are the antique gas pumps, signage and gas station memorabilia, right down to the bell ringing air house outside!
My interest in viewing the History of Stock Car Racing was in seeing the 1940-1960’s stock cars. Throughout the midwest, it seemed that every gas station, in every little town had a stock car, which was raced locally on Friday or Saturday nights. It was low buck, local fun, which I am happy to say still, exists in some form today. Although the display was not as large as I had hoped, it still was a fun experience. Enjoy the pics!
