BURBANK ! This is where it all started in the 40’s and 50’s. When you could buy a used model A (that ran) for a hundred bucks, gas was 19 cents a gallon and we had part time jobs to pay for our fun. High school had a class called “Auto Shop” and you could learn how to build-up FlatHeads, do body work, shave a hood, melt lead, chop a top, paint lacquer and a lot more. Famous names like Barris, Iskenderian, Ivo, Winfield, Von Dutch and Stromberg were on young rodders lips.
Hot Rods were born right here in the local area and Bob’s Big Boy became an institution. Car hops in mini-skirts took your orders with charm as you showed off with your buddies almost every night of the week.
It was here in Burbank in 1952 that the Road Kings Car Club was born – and it is here in Johnny Carson Park in beautiful Burbank that they held their 21st Picnic in the Park Car Show on June 13, 2010. Surrounded by famous studios such as Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, NBC and Universal just across the road. A great setting for a car show with hundreds of super rods and beautiful people and weather. Who could ask for more? Enjoy, Jerry Cook
