On July 7, Yesteryear of Oakdale Auto Club and the staff of Greentree Manor put on their annual car show and cookout for the residents, family members and guests of the nursing and rehabilitation center. The weather was perfect, the cars were polished to perfection, and the residents at Greentree Manor all were having a great time. The staff outdid themselves this year, preparing and serving a delicious cookout dinner to everyone who attended. The only problem popped up at dusk, when the staff tried to get about a third of the members of Yesteryear of Oakdale Auto Club back to their rooms. Luckily, the car club guys were able to show their ID’s to convince the staff they weren’t permanent residents. Every season Yesteryear of Oakdale Auto Club visits a half-dozen or more nursing homes and rehabilitation centers in Southeastern Connecticut and gives the residents a chance to check out the club members’ cars and tell some stories about the days when they owned and drove the same kind of car. It’s a great way to share the enjoyment of keeping old cars on the road and looking good.
Best wishes, Bob Warenda
