    Detroit Autorama  2011

In the same complex at  Special Projects,  we found  American Speed Company, and so got to take a short peek into some of their facility with Ken Yanez.     Those American Speed cars are just outstanding.... so it was great to get a close up look at some of their facilities..  We know that the official roadster of the Grand National Roadster show is an American Speed Company car and that John Buck just loves it. American Speed Company is having an Open House on May 14, 2011 so if you’d like to get the tour and enjoy some great cars...  be sure to get all of the details here.   and you can learn more about them at www.AmericanSpeedCompany.com

Two more stops and we called it a day .....   and  “What a Day”

John Amo, Inc.  machine shop in Redford Twp where we saw a really cool racing collection.
and then on to a  “Secret ... and not to be disclosed”  location where we met the owner of a fantastic  99 car collection and an amazing collection of  antiques and automobilia

This is John’s next project.. a car hauler  and we know it’s going to be spectacular.

The amazing thing about our next stop is that driving up to the building you would never suspect what was behind those walls.....   a fairly nondescript building with no clue on the outside of the treasure to be found inside.....  A collection of 99 Cars from all genres of our hobby, The Meurer Collection, has it all, from a car owned by  Joseph Kennedy,  to a car owned by Indian Royalty,  to  hot rods and muscle cars .... amazing !  Then there were the balconies and rooms filled with antiques and automotive memorabilia of all kinds.... including the first microwave oven,  vintage trailers complete with mannequins and so much more...

All we can say after that is  WOW .....  how amazing that this collection even exists, let alone that we got a private tour from our  MHRA friends.     And they tell us this is just a small tour....    for over 20 years the guys of the MHRA have spent their winters on  “Garage Tours” .... after all, there are no car shows, so what better way to spend time than to tour all of the local guys  shops,  garages,  and other  “car guy” spots.    A HUGE “Thank You” to  Al and Matt for  really making this trip a great one ....  next year we may sneak into Detroit even earlier so we can get a peek at some of the other treasures of Detroit area car guys.

Then.... after this great day .....   there’s  a  CAR SHOW ....   The Detroit Autorama 2011 ....   So now lets head for the show and see what Jack found there....
