The 22nd annual Big Bear Fun Run was held on August 12 thru 14 in Big Bear Village, CA.  Temperatures where in the high 70’s, about 15-20 degrees cooler than down the hill.  The sky was blue and only some of the cars were “hot”.  At over 7,000 feet elevation not only does your body feel the thin air but so does the hot rod.  The Village has quite an interesting array of shops and restaurants so there was good shopping and (some) good food for all.  Hosted by the very capable “Big Bear Lake Antique Car Club”, the event went smoothly. This event was sold out in March, that’s how popular it is!  On Saturday, as usual, over 500 quality, pre-’75, Hot Rods were treated to their own (tight) parking space in the village.  Very nice cars that you don’t normally see come from as far away as Nevada and Arizona.  Unfortunately, a Ferrari and a Triumph were allowed to enter the show this year.  Future additional classic foreign cars will adversely affect the success of this great hot rod event.  At the end of the day all the cars line up for the most amazing hot rod experience I have ever been a part of:  a beautiful drive around Big Bear Lake! The drive was more like a parade of cars in front of hundreds and hundreds of locals who came out to cheer for all the cars as though each one was the winner.  Even people in boats on the lake stopped to wave.

The “Fun Run” ended Sunday with a unique “drive thru” awards ceremony for over seventy-five winners including Noel Blanc’s 3 selections, Porky Pig, Tweetie Pie & Bugs Bunny.  The Antique Car Club donates over $15,000. to various community organizations each year.  For information on Fun Run 2012 contact, BBLACC at P.O.
