Well, they don't call it the Grand National for nothin!!!!! As usual there were more than a few worn out feet at the Big Daddy of shows in Pomona, California. We made a grand dash on Friday to catch most of the inside action at a glance, then on Saturday oogled our way between the buildings to be blown away by the outdoor car show. Later a more closer look on the inside and then over to where the real hot rods are in the "Suede Palace" Then there were the goodies vendors that were an epicureans delight. You could have turkey legs or hot dogs, tacos or pretzels, lemon aid or something stronger. Perfect weather didn't hurt and it all added to the circus like atmosphere that made the outdoor attractions a very real competition to the goings on inside. The automotive stuff was all there if your wallet can stand the exit of green backs, but these folks are the best in the business and will take time with you to talk over your projects and help you in any way they can.
Like rubbing elbows with the greats of our hobby? This is the place to be. "Frenchy", Faith Granger was there to help the unwashed that did not know about her movie, "The Deuce of Spades" to be enlightened, see her roadster and visit with some of the great actors that were part of it.
Hanging out with friends can really make your weekend and they was certainly plenty of that everywhere as seen by the many groups of people enjoying their favorite cars. Ours was the gang trailing Doug and Diane Beattie on lap after lap around their wow factor '40 Ford coupe. This bunch knows the meaning of having a good time, and for good reason being this is one of the best all time Forty Fords ever.
If you have never been there you can't catch the fever from a few photos and some trite words by the journalist types that thought they had seen it all till they came here. Want to see the best?, make plans for next year, it will be worth the trip. Dale M. Moreau
