Again, its Rose Festival time in the rose city of Portland, Oregon which hosts the annual Rose Festival parade and the Rose Festival run at the 107 year old Oaks Park. The Rose City Street Rods have had their annual Rose Festival Run at the "Oaks" for a lot of years and have become famous for their great hospitality. The location, a beautiful park setting with old time kids rides and a the oldest roller rink with organ west of the Mississippi couldn't be more beautiful.
The excellent cross section of hot rods and customs that make up the list of the invitation only event, adds the icing on the cake for this cool gathering of some of the finest wheels anywhere. On top of that the drawing for first class gifts and the picnic style lunch are second to none, not to mention the desserts.
This year besides the award for their favorite car picked by the park staff, there were two other ones given. One was in the memory of Sid Hall, a long time car builder in the Portland area. It was given by his family to a person who was of the same ability and passion. Another was for Cool white walls, which was very hard to pick as every car there with the sugar doughnut tires was a righteous ride. It went to Steve Gilligan for his chopped and channeled '32 Ford coupe, a car with a long history in the Portland area.
