‘32 Build Project
Segment 17
Aug. 19, 2005

When we finished with the pilot holes we step drill the pilot holes until we have the correct hole size for the tap we need. To make this proceedure easier we move the body
off the frame rail we will be step drilling and tapping.
We recommend tapping for a 3/8" x 16 bolt. That way if you ever need to drill out the
bolt hole in the future you will still have enough material for a larger bolt. For this roadster
body,we are drilling and tapping 12 body mounting holes. Two body mounts in each cowl area, one in the door openings, two in the floor plates of the safety bar and one in the rear corners of the trunk.

With all the holes tapped, we put the body back on the chassis. Note of caution. All composite bodies are not built the same. Some have steel reinforcing and some do not.You should evaluate the strength of the body you are working with before you move it about as we have to tap the mounting holes in the frame rails.
If you have the room to tap without moving the body out of the way , great. It has been our experience that moving the body and having the open work space is much easier. We
are planning to do a few more segments very soon, possibly before Nats North.
Thanks for checking out this segment. As always we welcome any and all comments. If you are in Kalamazoo ,MI for the N.S.R.A. Nats North, stop by and see the roadster project. We will have on display renderings and the frame for the next special build.  See ya there.
