This is a show we have been looking forward to for a long time.  We've always heard great things about Back to the 50's  and  the Minnesota Street Rod Association who puts it on.  Of course, the show experience doesn't start with the actual show.. First there's the TRIP there.  And if any of you are like Jack.. Getting there is half the fun !   There's something about the way Car Guys can spot that abandoned car out in a field--behind a building--in a barn--wherever they might hide.  I've gotten pretty good myself at picking up on that magical sight. The glint of windshields against the hillside that signals the treasure of Old CARS !   Jack is the master at spotting this !  And this trip was no exception.   We weren't even out of Idaho when, from the highway he spotted an old JunkYard.  Just had to stop to see if they might have a part he needs.  Well, the guy at the junkyard tells Jack that two stop signs down about 2 miles East there's a guy with old cars in his yard and another junkyard that is selling out to develop the land for houses.  Could there be Anything More Tempting ???   Well, the junkyard turned out to be a bust. Nothing he needed.  BUT down the road from the junkyard was a house with Treasure in the back field...

Now this may not look like treasure to all of you. Some old fifties mopars and an old farm truck...

But Jack isn't content to just wander through.he has to look under the hoods of these beauties. One of these cars is actually a '57 Plymouth Fury with a Huge Nascar type Hemi in it !   Remember when they had to put a certain number of cars on the road with their huge racing motors in order to be able to use them in the races ?   There were usually only a few of each type made ~  well here's one out in a field in Eastern Idaho !  Of course Jack went to the door but no one answered even though he could hear people inside. So he left a note on their door ~ but he's not holding his breath.

So.. Down the road we go ~ with a few interesting spots popping up along the way.

This is also in Eastern Idaho-- some 50's out in the scrub and an old Studebaker behind this shop.

We came across this  '57 Wagon in Western Montana.  This rodder isn't going to put his car away for the winter !

If you look really hard you'll see the remains of a Car Guys dream.  He had a pile going--all the parts he needed for that dream car.  He just waited too long to get it started !

We run into little rod shops all across the country when we travel.  This one is Bob's in Forsythe, Wyoming.  We didn't see anyone around though.

Rosebud Auto Wrecking and Salvage in Rosebud, Montana

Jack met a really nice guy here in Rosebud.  Dewain Wilhelm has this salvage yard right on the banks of a river in Rosebud. What a great view. The river, set off perfectly by a collage of old trucks and cars.

Dewains daughter Heather won a poetry contest and has a chance to go to Salt Lake City if she can raise the money, so Dewain gave her all of the hubcaps in the yard so that she could sell them to earn her way to Salt Lake.  A budding entrepenure  with roots in old cars !  If you need hubcaps you can call them at  406-347-5341.

Dewain also has a lot of truck parts and other good stuff you might need so give them a call, they were great people to meet up with.

Dewain told Jack about another guy nearby who had a lot of cars on his land. So off we went !   This ride put Jack in Hogs Heaven !

Also in Rosebud, Montana but across the river and a few miles away we met JimYonkaitis.  His Dad had a big spread here where he raised cattle and grew some hay.but for as long as Jim can remember, his Dad was dragging in cars.  His Dad is gone now and his Mom has been getting rid of the cars but there are still a lot left here.  Most of the two door cars are gone but take a look at all of these great pictures and see if there's something you can't live without. You can call Jim at  406-347-5325.  Tell him Jack from HotRodHotLine sent you !   He's a great guy and spent a lot of time with us wandering over the property looking at all of the cars.
