This is the first hot rod type vehicle that I have ever had. I have fooled around with cars for years since I graduated high school back in the late 70's. But, this is the nicest fully restored project that I have ever done. My name is Gary Lane and I live near Chattanooga Tennessee in a little country town called Soddy Daisy.
The 1972 GMC Sierra truck was originally a factory air, automatic unit. It was dark green and white originally. It was in very good shape and a very solid truck with little to no rust. The rust it had was just some surface rust. The motor and tranny are the original ones. The motor was bored to .030 over and all new high performance parts were put in it along with ceramic coated headers.

It is now 355 cubic inches and a little over 400 HP. The tranny is the original turbo 400 that has been completely gone thru with all new parts. It has the original 12 bolt rear end in it but with new 373 ratio ring gear and pinion. Everything about this truck is new or completely refurbished. All trim pieces and chrome are new.
The interior is all new except for the seat and the dash gage cluster and they have been completely refurbished. I had the gauges done in white faces. It is a complete frame off resto.
The frame and all components were completely disassembled and painted. Then it was all reassembled with all new stainless steel hardware and all new mounts and bushings. All new stainless steel brake lines as well. I have put a serpentine belt set up on it from Zoops along with Vintage A/C compressor. A new Painless wiring harness was installed along with an Ididit billet tilt steering column.
I designed the under the bed aluminum fuel tank and had it fabricated by Boyd welding. I converted it to 5 lug and disc brakes on the front. It has been dropped in the front with 2-1/2" drop spindles and in the rear with 4" drop coil springs along with 2" solid aluminum blocks that I made. The total drop in the rear is 6". It has one off Billet Specialties 18"x10.5" on the rears and 17"x9.5" on the front. Each spoke of the wheels have grooves cut in a gator back design along the length of the entire spoke. I wanted something a little different from the usual torque thrust look. I will probably change the 2 piece drive shaft and the turbo 400 tranny out this winter for a 700R4 tranny and a 1 piece drive shaft.
This project has been a labor of love by myself and my son! I could not have done it with out the support and help of my family! It has only been finished and on the road since the end of May this year.
It has taken first place in class in 4 shows and best of show in 1 show. I have entered it in 7 shows so far and it took a top 20 plaque in the other 2 shows where they did not give out place trophies. So, yes I am very thankful and proud to say it is mine. Thank you, Gary Lane.
