My Great Find!!

By Larry Hofer

It had been driven to where it was at about 4 years before and then kept covered in plastic ever since.  These next pictures are what it looked like after we got it home and cleaned up so it could be put inside the garage.

The body has only 2 very small dents in it, and the right rear fender has one small dent.  The only serious rust is the running boards, (where water would stand) and in the trunk floor metal.  The fenders have never been cracked or welded.  The only parts that weren't with the car was, 1 window crank handle, 1 inside door handle, the inside rear view mirror, and the front shocks.
Since these pictures were taken, the body and fenders (that will be used) have all been removed and the complete chassis has been sold.  A new frame was bought, along with a 4" drop I-Beam axle with a Posie Super Slide spring, with reversed eyes were bought, along with a of '40 Ford spindles.  The drive train is going to be a 350 SBC with a 700R4 and a 9" Ford rear.  The top will be chopped 4" and a drop headlight bar with the original headlights (with halogen bulbs) will be used.  The paint will be flat black, with red steel wheels and hub caps.  I hope to build the car to look like what I wanted when I was 16 years old (in 1966).  Funny, but back then you could buy a really nice Model A Ford for 100--150 dollars…..
So there are still a few of the stories "I just missed a barn full of those old cars that sold for next to nothing" out there, and this one was true.  Oh, I can't tell you how many people said, "you should have called me, I would have loaned (or bought them) you the money for them.
Well that's my story, and if you want to use part, or all of it, that will be fine with me.  I won't say what I paid for my coupe, but I will say I didn't get hurt over the deal……
I do need to give a special thanks to my wife Melissa for all the help and support she has given me over our years together, for not only the cars I've bought and sold, but everything I've ever wanted to do.  It's great being in love with your best friend…..
