Tavis Highlander
1953 Willys Wagon

line12

I remember one time when I was telling myself that I'm not really that big of a car guy. It was 10:00pm and I was wet sanding the roof of my hot rod that I had built and painted. So much for not being a big "car guy."
Since my senior year in college I have been running my own small consulting business, Highlander Concept Rendering. I provide design and artistic services to individuals and professional builders. Some of my clients include Pure Vision Design, Nelson Racing Engines, Pirelli, and even Mopar Performance. Vehicle renderings, interior designs, CAD modelling, product design, and cartoons are some of my specialty services. I've been fortunate enough in the past two and a half years to have my work in Hot Rod, Truckin', Camaro Performers, and Mopar Collector's Guide. Hot Rod Magazine has even contracted me to design two project vehicles for them, as well as other art works.
My first full hot rod build has just been completed at age 24. I decided to rescue a clapped out 53 Willy's Wagon. The original plan was for a super simple build. After completing some work for Mopar, they offered me sponsorship on the project. Before I knew it I had a 6.1L Hemi and a Viper six speed sitting in the Willy's chassis. The focus was still on a simple build, so my father and I did all the work ourselves aside from the upholstery. We'd never painted a car, fabricated a chassis, or replaced sheet metal before! It turned out great though, and it was a ton of fun!
Thanks, Tavis Highlander
