FEATURE ARTICLE IN THE LINECHASER - SEPTEMBER 2005 By: Jennie Melgard #L-15485
This month I am introducing Dan Odell. He has been in the Ignitors now for about a year. He came into my work to buy floor pans for his '52 Chevy 2 door Styleline sedan. Not very many people who are under the age of 30 come into my work to buy parts. So we got to talking cars, Ignitors, etc. He's been a member ever since. Now back to the '52 his grandma bought him because it was the first car she learned to drive on. All she wanted to do was see it run. Dan is installing a 350 small block with a 350 tranny into it. He is leaving the stock chassis as is, other than installing a Camaro rear end. This car needs a lot of body work. You already know he needs a floor. Other than that, the previous owner did a horrible job of putting patch panels on the rear quarter and then covering it up with about 1/2 a pound of bondo. After scraping the bondo off, Dan also discovered that the car had been in a few accidents. The work doesn't bother him. He's looking forward to the challenge. The only thing that does bother him is a lack of time. With always having an abundance of mechanical ability, he is spending his days going to school for diesel mechanics and spending his nights doing just that...working for Boyer Ford. When asked if you could choose any kind of car you wanted, he paused, like any of us would, then finally said "a '57 Chevy." He has his next project already lined up - a '40 Chev 4 door sedan. He likes the body style and that the rear doors are suicide doors. Well, with that..... go and make grandma proud and good luck with your new addition.
