Goodguys Rod and Custom Association and The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer have extended their partnership through 2016 to raise funds and awareness for the Foundation's mission to erase the effects of pediatric cancer for patients, survivors, and their families. This continued partnership will provide the Foundation with opportunities to educate both children and adults about healthy lifestyles that prevent cancer, as well as much-needed therapies, in a variety of cities throughout the country.
Goodguys Rod and Custom Association, a California-based producer of some of the world's most dynamic automotive events for three decades, will be working with the Foundation at several Goodguys shows during 2016 to help the cause. Association members and show attendees will be given the opportunity to contribute to the efforts of the Foundation through donations, the purchase of limited edition merchandise, and the participation in the "AutoCross for Kids" program, as well as through volunteering for some of the program's initiatives.
The AutoCross for Kids program will give Goodguys show attendees the opportunity (at select shows) the chance to ride with Pro AutoCross competitors on a specially-prepared closed performance AutoCross course in exchange for a specified donation to the Austin Hatcher Foundation. The AutoCross for Kids program will be held on Fridays and Sundays at select events throughout the year.
During each event weekend, the Foundation will also partner up with a local hospital to bring its innovative Diversionary Therapy program to children and families in the pediatric oncology units. The program is designed to help patients, survivors, and their families enjoy leisure time by building and racing the Foundation's pinewood derby cars. The hope is that this will offer a simple but effective diversion from the challenges presented to these families by pediatric cancer. Goodguys will enhance the program by inviting members of the local hot rod community to participate and display collectable cars.
"We are overwhelmed at the support Goodguys demonstrated in 2015 and continues to provide the foundation," said Amy Jo Osborn, Austin Hatcher Foundation President. "They have offered up these amazing events again in 2016, and continue to look for new ways to help. They have really rallied to support our cause."
"Goodguys events are family events," said Marc Meadors, President of Goodguys Rod & Custom Association. "The hot rod/car community is a huge family and bringing the Austin Hatcher Foundation into the fold is a win-win for everyone. We had a very successful year last with this program and hope to do great things for them this year through the AutoCross for Kids promotion in raising and awareness and funds in the fight against pediatric cancer."
The partnership will kick off at the Goodguys 7th Spring Nationals, March 4-6 at WestWorld of Scottsdale in Scottsdale, AZ and will be held at several events throughout the Goodguys 2016 event schedule.
