Are you a fan of nitro burning Nostalgia Funny Cars? If so, put a mark on your calendar for Friday, July 29. On that date, Goodguys will turn Pacific Raceways into a fiberglass forest with a solid field of Nitro Funny Cars. An 8-car “Chicago-Style” program, “Goodguys Northwest Nitro Shootout” presented by Bucky’s Auto Service and CP-Carrillo, has been booked, headlined by Tacoma’s Bucky Austin and his Bardahl-sponsored ’69 Chevy Camaro.
All nitro burners will run twice during the evening. The quickest winning car in the 2nd session claims bragging rights as the winner of the Funny Car shootout. In addition to Austin, you will see Steven Densham, Ryan Hodgson, Mark “Mr Explosive” Sanders, Tim Boychuk, Nathan Sitko, Chris Davis, Wally Giava and others.
That’s only a portion of the impressive lineup. Rich Guasco’s “Pure Hell” will face Bryan Hall’s “Tramp” in a Fuel Altered match race. West Virginia’s Bobby Hilton will take to the track with his son driving the family Top Fuel Dragster vs Canada’s Phil Rustowski. If that’s not enough, the Pro Mods of Garrett Richards and Yvonne Lucas square off in a classic blown vs nitrous battle. In addition to the high-powered exhibition machines, hundreds of sportsman racers will burn up the track in five separate racing classes.
The Pacific Raceways gates open Friday, July 28 at 8 am, and tech opens at 9 am. Sportsman time trails begin at 10 am, with Sportsman eliminations starting at 4 pm. Nitro Funny Cars and other exhibition cars run at 6pm, 8pm, and 10pm.
Tickets for the Friday night vintage drags at Pacific Raceways are $20 general admission, kids (6-12) $6, 6 and under are free. $15 tickets for the drags can be purchased here until Thursday night before the event. Pit access is included in admission prices. For more drags info, visit www.good-guys.com.

Over 2,500 hot rods, customs, classics, muscle cars and trucks through 1972 will be on display all weekend long at the fairgrounds. In addition, the event offers vendor exhibits, swap meet, cars for sale corral, entertainment, pinstripers’ brush bash, indoor car show, kid’s zone and three days of American hot rodding.
