KMHOF Will Induct 2016 Honorees on November 5th

The Kentucky Motorsports Hall of Fame will once again recognize the history and contributions of some 11 individuals who have impacted the motorsports world with the induction of its 2016 class of honorees.

The afternoon of Nov. 5 will see the ninth annual ceremony take place inside the Speedzeum of the Owensboro Science and History Museum. The museum opens at noon, and the ceremony will begin at 3 p.m.; afterwards, the honorees will mingle with the public.

The 11 inductees include powerboat and Open Wheel specialist Bill Cantrell, Custom Car builder Pat Keating, drag racing team Jackie Lawson, Gary Eldridge, and Billy Adams, along with Cooper Hayden and Conway Witten of the straight line speedsters. Circle track specialists on dirt Butch Shay and Wayne Coakley will also be honored, along with two special designated inductees: David Green, drag racer and father to three NASCAR main series drivers, will be inducted as a pioneer of drag racing, and CJ Rayburn (also a former drag racer) will become a visionary inductee due to his career of building and engineering racing chassis and motors.

As part of the day's activities, inductee Witten will share his personal testimony in a pre-induction event held during the 2 p.m. hour on the second floor of the museum. A DVD presentation of his racing and religious experiences should provide a moving story.

The public is welcome to the free event, and advised to enter the Owensboro Science and History Museum from its Daviess Street doors. Located just a block off the riverfront, the Museum has parking available on the corner of Second and Daviess streets.
