I am currently working on a 74 chevy nova. Its my first car, I just sent it out to get it silica blasted and when I get it back this weekend I am going to get started on the body. But I have a few questions that pertain to custom interiors. I saw a 38 Graham Roadster on your site, I think it said Jerry Kind from Lodi, NJ worked on 'er. I noticed that foam was used, I'm guessing it was spray in, cut away then covered with fiberglass. What brand/kind of foam is it exactly? Was it covered with fiber? If so is there anything I need to do to keep the resin from eating away the foam? I really appreciate any information you could give me. Like i said this is my first car but I built/paint custom choppers so the only thing I am not going to do on this car myself is media blast it. Thanks, Tyler zcomprog@gmail.com(6/20/08)

Hi Guys, I am planning to do a radical custom of a rare 1940 Bedford truck. It is an English ex-army flat top. I have a rough plan sorted to mold the body to the chassis of a Ford F250 4x4 7.3liter Power Stroke Diesel. It will be light enough with my calculations to perform as well as most street machines and should be something of a perfect street sleeper. I would like to get some info on the engine, like how much power it puts out in stock form and the the torque rating. Grumpy borderfans@telstra.com(4/30/08)

Hello, I am currently tearing down a 1964 c-10. I have already selected the suspension that I want to install. My question is I want to install a ls1 engine with a T-56 6 speed transmission in it. Are there any modifications that I must make before installing this combination? Thank you dumaflatch@yahoo.com(4/30/08)

First time interior installation... I know that this is a shot in the dark, but I am wondering if anyone out there has ever installed a Rod Doors ABS headliner, and matched it with their rear cab cover panels? I'm working on the interior of a Downs glass 33 Ford coupe, and I bought the whole "kit" from Rod Doors. However, there are only vague instructions and no pictures included when it comes to the headliner. All the ABS plastic panels are plenty oversized (a good thing), but that leaves many options on what to cut and where. Just wondering if anyone has successfully used this kit in a 32-33-34 coupe and could send me some pictures of your process? Many thanks in advance! Ed edsultan@comcast.net(4/30/08)

HELP! I am building a '56 Ford F100-I wanted to run painted steel wheels- have a Ford 8" rear,so called Wheel Vintigues to order 4 wheels. I need a custom off set on the rear of appx 2 3/4". To get this they tell me I have to go to a reversed wheel--I have no problem with that, but then they tell me you can not run a trim ring on a reversed wheel. Well, look in any issue of Classic Trucks and I'll show you a hand full that do! Can anyone tell me where to buy what I need? Planning on 15 X 8 on the rear and 15 X 7 for the Valerie front. Thanks! strick@q.com(4/24/08)

My daughter and I bought a 63 ford falcon ranchero. I have been doing some inquirng about the vin number and found this car came with a 170 motor. The motor in the car is a 200. Is there a place on the engine I can find a serial number or anything to help me identify where this motor came from? The car is in really good shape structuraly but the wiring is a mess. Does anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram for this car? Thanks for all the help. Derek telfordd22@hotmail.com(4/24/08)

Your website states if you have any questions to send them to you. I've got one. I have been working on a 54 Chevy convertible for a long time, all new floors, trunk, doors, door bottoms, etc. the usual. I need to contact some one who has a 54 Chevy convertible, because I need a few measurements. I am now at the point where the convertible top piston brackets fasten to the floor. The brackets, I don't have. I would like to see if I could get a picture and some measurements to do this properly. Can you help? It would be appreciated, thank you. Ed Whateverinnh@aol.com(4/22/08)

A fix is simple when you know how to do it. I’m sure someone out there has the solution. I converted my mid-60’s Ford 302 from an externally regulated alternator to a one-wire alternator. The voltmeter works fine but I would like the red ignition light to function properly also. The wire I disconnected from the external regulator which went to the ign. light needs to connect somewhere ….. My problem…. Where? Thank You for any help smupen@citlink.net (4/22/08)

I have a question pertaining to the latest fad....17"-20" wheels and low profile tires. The look is cool on the right "hi-tec" car but what is the ride quality? I can't help but believe that the ride would be akin to a "lumber wagon". Also what tire pressure would be appropriate for the best (and still safe) ride? I haven't seen this addressed and would like some honest feedback before going this route. Thank you. Ted debus@earthlink.net(4/17/08)

Hi HotRod HotLine, I cannot find the parts I am looking for. I am sure someone out there makes floor braces for a 1954 Chevrolet Belair 2 Door HardTop. Can anyone guide me in the right direction please. Neville & Carol, Melbourne Australiacarnevil@bigpond.com(4/7/08)

Has anyone ever used the 6X2 system from RETROTEK? I put one on a 350 chevy and can not get it to work. I have been tuning on it for about five weeks and have made very little progress. I have called Retrotek every day and sent them my computer to have the up grade to it. I fixed the wiring harness Retrotek said was missing grounds. I have done every thing I can think of. Two computer techs looked it over and concluded the computer was bad. I think they are right even though Retrotek says it's not. I have no manufacturer support. Can someone give me some advice on making it work. I would like to get it working so I can try to sell it and get some of my money back. redcoats2006@yahoo.com(3/28/08)

I have a project that I am hoping to get some other peoples ideas and help with. First of all I am talking about a car that has been sitting for 20 years in the Wyoming weather even though it has been covered most of the time....so there is no rust, as for the engine it has not been started the whole time it has been parked so I might want to go with a newer engine and trans package. It is a 1969 Mustang Sportroof w/302 and 4 speed and I have some front end damage on the car....the hood, right fender as well as the inner fender and shock tower, bumper and air dam, grille, radiator all need to be replaced. The previous owner was unfortunate enough to hit not one but two deer with it and really messed it up. What I am hoping for on the forum is to get ideas as to whether to replace the whole front clip or just the damaged parts.....I am aware of the drivers front inner fender having a hidden VIN and really don't want to lose any more documentation than I have to from original. I realize the whole clip may be the way to go but I would also like the correct way to remove the old front clip and replace with the new one.....as I look at the car it looks like the whole clip from the firewall forward is attached by spot welds. I could be wrong but if that is the way its attached how do I do this? I am trying to do this as a project that my 70 year old dad and myself can do together and have some fun family times like we did when I was younger. Any input from my fellow rodders would be greatly appreciated and respected. Thank you, Anthony Garcia toogood61@msn.com(3/27/08)

I have an 86 Ford F-150 inline 6 cylinder engine, carburetored with the 4 speed manual transmission. I want to put the engine and transmission into a newer (1995-2000) Ford F-150 truck body. I am looking into what after market air conditioning system to purchase for my streetrod. The safe way is to go with Vintage Air, but there is another system available named Southern Air out of South Carolina. There is a big difference in the cost. I need to ask a question if I can? I need to know if anyone out there has ever tried to put a newer frame under a 1947 Chevy two door hard top Business Coupe? I am going to try to build one and I am testing some Camaro frames but there would be too much conversion. If you have done this or heard of anyone doing this please let me know what frame they used so I can save some valuable time in restoring this car. Jesse Jesse.Binam@labarge.com(3/12/08)

I am Kevin from the Great White North, (Ontario Canada). I purchased a 1961 Dodge Town Wagon last summer and it has a 225 slant six in it. I am at the cross roads, not sure whether to rebuild the six into a super six or go with an updated 8 cylinder. I am contemplating on cutting the frame and welding up a complete sub frame in order to have all the power goodies as well as a V-8 set up. I don't know what to do, I've never chopped the front end before, not exactly sure how to do it properly and then again keeping it stock and original appeals to me as well. This vehicle is to be my sons handicap hot rod, he is wheel chair bound and deserve to ride to the show and shines in style. Any ideas or thoughts out there, please feel free to forward to. Thanks, Kevin billforester357@hotmail.com(3/10/08)

I have a 1969 sport roof and I am having a hard time choosing how to go with the engine....it has a 302 with a 4 speed in it from the factory. I have several engine choices that I could go with, however...I have a 428 from a 68 police interceptor, a 69 390 from a t-bird, a 71 460 from a mark 3, and I can't decide what to use. I want something that is going to be reliable and have enough power to have fun. I have been told I can actually build the 302 and get quite a few ponies out of it. I also am in need of advice on what to do with the body...I am having to put a new front clip on it because the person that had it previous to me hit two deer with it and messed up the passenger front. Of course money is also a concern, any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Anthony toogood61@msn.com(3/7/08)

With the car show season about to begin, I'm wondering if you would mind sending out a request for photos of any car club plaques that your readers may spot at the car shows they attend. I'm the webmaster for our car club (Relics & Rods) in Lake Havasu City, AZ and currently have 4,000 different plaques posted on our site. I started collecting plaque photos when I lived in California and have had a lot of people send me photos of their plaque or plaque collection. Thanks, Bill relicrod@pair.com(3/4/08)

I’m a 60-year-old kid who’s never grown up – thank God! Among my childhood heroes were Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, George Barris and Darryl Starbird. Now I have a 4-year-old grandson, Charlie, who has recently asked me what my hobbies were when I was a kid. I own a couple of good hardbound books such as Hot Rod Milestones, and although they have some great pictures in them, I’m trying to compile a computer folder full of pictures that I can show Charlie. And, what I’d really love to find and show him is photos of every past winner of the prestigious America’s Most Beautiful Roadster trophy. I’ve found photos of a few winners, but I’m hoping that there might be somewhere I could go that has a photo “chronology” of all winners! Thanks. Larry snide72@wideopenwest.com(3/4/08)

Hello--I have a 1947 Chevy convertible. It has power brakes on it now-disc/drum with under car remote system. I would like to convert to dual master cylinder--pedal assembly under floor. Is there a manufacturer out there that makes a direct bolt in unit for this car! The ones I have found so far need frame modification due to the fact of it being a convertible. Would it be just as easy to go to the firewall mount? Thanks, Ken reborn55@msn.com(2/7/08)

I have a technical question. My father is not computer literate, so here I am again. my dad wanted some info on an erson cam. The # he gave me is TQ2011. It is supposed to be for a buick 215 ci engine. His engine is a carburated aluminum buick engine from 1962. I have found an erson part # but I cannot find the specs on this cam. Can anyone help me find the specs for this thing? He has a 23 t-bucket repop. with a 9 inch rear, a muncie 4 speed and the aluminum buick 215 engine. Neat ride for not much invested. We have scavenged parts from some of our old cars kept around for just such an occasion as this build, cheap easy and fast. If anyone could help with the cam issue it would greatly be appreciated. Thanks again danpolo@sbcglobal.net(1/28/08)

I have had this 1963 chevy impala that was passed down to me from my grandmother & it really needs a lot of work. Basically it is a body with nothing inside, well very little ! Most importantly the vin # is missing ! Is there another place on the body or frame, etc. that would have Vehicle Identification Numbers? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks sweetninazz@msn.com(1/28/08)

I am trying to build a 48 Chevy coupe. I put a 74 nova clip on and I want to keep the fire wall clean so I bought a 7" booster and dual master cylinder. I am trying to mount it behind stock pedal. I made a plate to bolt to the floor and because of the auto transmission mount, I need to be back about 12" to 14". Is a 3/8 rod stout enough at that distance to work o.k.? I also am having a little trouble hooking the steering column to the box, but one thing at a time. Hope you can help. Thanks so much, Bob I_R_TRUCKING_BOB@msn.com(1/28/08)

I am thinking of buying an after market power brake setup for my 1963.5 Ford Galaxie. It now has no power, 4 wheel drums all stock. ABS Power Brake, Inc. has a universal unit they say just bolts on. No need for a Prop Valve. It has a special mount bracket and adjustable rod for pedal Height. What do you think? Is this to good to be true. I do not want to hook it up and have the pedal go to the floor or worse through me through the windshield. Has anyone installed this type of unit? Thanks, Frank, Las Vegas, Nv Dillonsnw@aol.com(1/7/08)

I have a small block Ford intake made by buddybarr castings. I contacted them and spoke with a CEO and Buddy Barr himself. On the intake it has a stamp that says 9-64. It is a three duece intake. Buddy Barr said they made all kinds of intakes for different makes and he didn't remember making 3-2 intakes for small block Ford. I know it is an early 60's Ford style by the pcv, which looks like the y-block style. If anyone out there might know how much this is worth or might be interested in buying it, please contact me at this e-mail or my home phone number is 1-217-875-8016... Thanks alot, Mike Boyd crossinu13@insightbb.com(1/3/08)

I HAVE A `1980 LUV PICKUP THAT HAS BEEN STREET RODED AND NEEDS POWER STEERING. WHAT KIND OF A SYSTEM WILL WORK ON THIS? THANKS, BENNY bennyc5@windstream.net(12/24/07)

I was wondering if you know what locations to look for old ford 2 doors, coups, sedans, high-boys, pick-ups and other early year fords. I've been looking ever since I was 15 and 16 years old and had no luck in finding those bodies. I just want one where I can fix up to my own liking and was interested in one that's like in a field or somewhere. I'm in college now and don't have that much money to spend and wanted to build one myself. If you know where places I can go to buy or grab an early ford that will be great and helpful. Thanks a lot.... andyboy3282@aol.com(12/19/07)

I have a 1966 Chevy c-10 pickup. What vehicle can I get brake drums from to fit the rear with 5 lugs? Also, from what vehicle can get tilt steering to fit? proussel@rtconline.com(12/19/07)

I am building my first street rod, a 1940 Ford Standard Business Coupe, when I purchased the vehicle the body was in great shape, but some parts had been cannibalized off of it. The door glass and vent windows were among the missing items. I recently purchased vent windows at a swap meet. There is a 2 3/8 inch long shaft on the bottom of the vent window frame. On this shaft is a castle nut and a spring with washers and spacers. That shaft obviously bolts to something inside the door. The doors on my vehicle are for the most part gutted, so something is missing. I need advice on installing the vent window and on what may be missing. I may also be interested in installing a full door window and skipping the vent windows all together. Are there any manufacturers with kits available to do this? Thanks. David Ballard davidb@ballardagencyinc.com(12/19/07)

I am building a 1950 Chevy 2 door sedan to look like a 1955-56 stock car. Where can I get some pictures of these cars? Can you offer any tricks that might help? I am a old dude of 63 and love to work on cars. I have been getting Hot Rods since I was 16 years old. I still have a lot of them. Thanks for your help. Bill hoopscw@hutchtel.net(12/6/07)

I was just watching an episode of 2 Guys Garage in which they were installing PW in a 29 Chevy hot rod. They used PW switches which allowed the use of the original window crank. Push up slightly and it engaged the up movement and the opposite for down. They were not shown long enough for me to get the whole name on the switch. What I was able to read was Golden Rod.........I want to install PW in my 72 Vette while maintaining a totally original look. Can you help me identify and locate this type of switch? Thanks, Ken kpowers7@tampabay.rr.com(12/5/07)

I bought a 1954 Chevy Truck that has a 1957 bed on it with the square fenders. I know it should have the round fenders. It looks like a long bed, but I would like to know if it originally should be the short bed? My 1954 Chevy truck has a manual transmission. Can I put a 1991 Chevy Caprice 305 Fuel injection that is from an automatic transmission? Will the motor mount right on to my manual transmission and will the motor drop right into the motor mounts? Both of them are Chevy's? I would really appreciate any feed back you can give me. Shelley shelleyssm@sbcglobal.net(12/5/07)

Just bought a 61 Ford Galaxie four door, it has the original motor and the 3 speed transmission I was thinking to change the motor and trans. to make it automatic and give it more power. Unless there is a way to do that without changing everything. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. By the way I am new in the game bear with me. Thanks, Sal mdr16@mac.com>(12/3/07)
