The truck started out with humble beginings, it began life as a 1979 Maxim 100 ladder truck. We bought this truck for the pristine 1606 mile old drive train, then scrapped the rest and built it from the ground up. We wanted to build something that looked like it was a cartoon on tv and became real, with a little of Charlie Manson’s influence. I kinda like to call it our oversized 46 Ford pickup with an attitude. It drives like my VW Jetta only bigger. The motor is an 8V92TA, which is a two stroke diesel that is supercharged and turbocharged. It has a 4 speed Allison Transmission backed by a 464 Rockwell Rear. The 24.5 tires definitely give it a stance. It sports 1100 ft. lbs. at 1900 rpm. It’s all about the torque. People like trucks, diesel motors and they like big blocks.This diesel is 736 cubic inches.
I think that we’ve satisfied all markets very well. It turns from left to the right bank in 4 revolutions. The cab is from a 1946 Ford pickup. The bed was built in our shop as was the frame, front end, tonneau cover, wiring, plumbing and air systems, all bodywork and paint. They don’t build kits for this kind of truck. The fenders were outsourced to a Canadian company. The fuel tanks were built in Ohio, and the headlights were from Riley’s Reproductions. It took us approximately 1100 nonunion hours of labor and copious amounts of money. We utilized air brakes, and a full truck-style frame that has been way overbuilt. The sound of this thing has a presence at 2 miles an hour. No matter where I go with this truck, it receives all of the attention. I own a company in Twin Mountain, NH known as Bumper To Bumper Auto
