These are pictures of my get away - with all the political correctness and multi culture diversity - I retreat to the days of the past, of my youth and remember it a different way.
The days of when a dollar was a dollar - imagine, it bought 20 Hershey chocolate bars - Coke in a little green bottle was a tin dime - which by the way was minted in silver. The best of the top 40 could be heard playing everywhere. Transistor radio was the rage - the AM D Jays were the best. The songs were about happy things, yes, sometimes broken hearts but we as teenagers could relate to that.
To ward off our frustration there were Firecrackers - Gym dances - drag racing on the street. Those were the days. Everything, I mean everything was made in the Good Old U.S of A. There were car hops everywhere – 3 Plays of your favorite song for a quarter to impress your gal. Who could ask for anything more!
English was the only language and instructions were all in English. No dial 3 for English on the Mom Bell phones either.
Was it perfect, no, but darn close. Also, back in the day we definitely had a can do spirit. We were going to put a man on the moon - by the way, without the metric system and we fulfilled the JFK challenge. To me, as a kid living in the bad part of Newark, it was hope that tomorrow was going to get better and better. I witnessed it every time I saw a new sleek car coming out of Detroit
I was happy to be part of those times, so today, when the news gets me down - which is about every day, I go to the Man Cave for some relief – So now I invite all to join me for a step back in time to the Good Old Days...They’ll never be the same again Sam.
