FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nick Cirino owner of Big Al’s Carponents passed away on June 25 at his home in San Bernardino, CA.  Born on August 22, 1932, in Alhambra, California, Nick spent his entire life in Southern California in and around racing and custom cars.

Durfee Frank Nicka

Nick first discovered fast cars in the late-forties watching races at the dry lakes.  During the fifties, he started working on his own cars then moved from the street rods into drag racing at the early Southern California strips.  He and his partner, Frank Groves, successfully ran the Durfee Roadster on these tracks in the late 1950’s, early 1960’s.

Nick moved into top fuel drag boat racing during the 1970’s.   The boat “Warlock” held it’s own in the competitive field of Southern California drag boat racing from 1967 through the early 1970’s.

Once the drag boat was retired, Nick returned to the drag strip with a top fuel dragster.  The Buehl, Cirino and Rhodes car, as well as the Archibald & Cirino dragsters ran the Southern California tracks until the late 1970’s.

After leaving drag racing, in 1986 he opened the company we know today as Big Al’s Carponents.  Designing and producing specialty parts for custom cars was his passion.  Nick was actively managing Big Al’s Carponents to the end.

According to Nick’s wife, Nancy, there will be no changes made in the way of doing business with Big Al’s Carponents.  Nancy will continue operating the company as in the past.  The focus of the company will continue to concentrate on the design, manufacture and distribution of fine quality machined accessories not only for Street Rods, but also for Early and Late Model Custom and Specialty Cars and Trucks. Nick was an active member of the street rod community and touched the lives and hearts of everyone who knew him.  His teasing sense of humor, notorious temper tantrums and outrageous story telling will be remembered.   A celebration of who Nick was will be held on July 22, 2006, at 1:30 pm in the Renaissance Room at the Orange Show Fairgrounds, in San Bernardino, California.
