POMONA, Calif. – The West Coast’s largest gathering ever of Indian Motorcycles is thundering toward the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum, presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California. On Sat., Aug, 26, an estimated 100-plus Indian bikes will cruise into the Pomona Fairplex for Indian Day West. The free event, held in conjunction with the current “World’s Fastest Indians’ exhibit at the Museum, runs from 8 a.m-2 p.m.

“There are numerous activities planned for Indian Day West,” said noted Indian Motorcycle expert and racer Eric Vaughn, who’s helping organize the event. “We anticipate this to be a once in a lifetime opportunity for Indian Motorcycle enthusiasts to mingle with other aficionados, and see many rare bikes that will be brought out specifically for this event, along with the cool display at the Museum.”

Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Co., founded in 1901, is America’s oldest motorcycle manufacturing brand. It ceased production in 1953, but since then, Indian bikes has developed a devoted following stemming from the company’s many innovations, classic designs, historic value and rarity factor.

According to Tony Thacker, executive director of the Parks Museum, there will be guest speakers, Indian memorabilia and a road ride. “If you’re into Indian motorcycles or vintage bikes, Indian Day West is the place to be,” he said. “This is another example of the Museum’s ‘living history’ theme, where people aren’t just spectators – they become participants.”

“The World’s Fastest Indians” exhibit, presented by Cycle World magazine, highlights the legendary motorcycle, featured in the recent Sir Anthony Hopkins movie, ‘The World’s Fastest Indian.” The exhibit runs through August and includes the historic Indian Scout bike that New Zealander H.J. “Burt” Munro rode to fame to set numerous land speed records at Bonneville in the 1960s, as well as several other vintage Indian racing motorcycles.
