Greg Weld, Founder of Weld Racing Wheels, Passes Away at 64 in Kansas City, MO

In 1967, Greg started Weld Wheels.

Kansas City, MO - Greg Weld passed away after an extended illness August 4, 2008.

Weld, 64, was an accomplished racer and entrepreneur.

After a stellar driving career in Open Wheel Racing, Weld was formally inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 1998.

Weld’s accomplishments included winning the 1963 

Knoxville Nationals, earning the 1967 USAC Sprint Car Point Championship, and being the fastest Rookie Qualifier at the 1970 Indianapolis 500.

While competing nationally as a driver, Weld took winnings earned and founded nationally known Weld Racing Wheels in 1967, in addition to founding Greg Weld Design and Greg Weld Competition Wheels.

Survivors include his wife Deb, former wife Marilyn Brockman-Weld, sons Taylor and Brock, and daughter Christian Weld-Brown. He also leaves behind sisters Deloris, Wesley, and Marilyn Burrasco, and brother Ricky. Weld is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Weld was predeceased by father Taylor “Pappy” Weld and brothers Kenny and Jerry.

A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at 10 AM at the Kansas City Baptist Temple.
