TO OUR HOT ROD FRIENDS
“CALL TO ARMS”

This is a “CALL TO ARMS” for everybody in the Hot Rod world to help a fellow gear head. Jeff Hornsby, who is the current President of Pickups Limited of Orange County, has been diagnosed with terminal stomach & throat cancer. His doctor has told him to gather his affairs immediately and he has now moved to Hospice care at the Long Beach VA hospital. It is only a matter of days that Jeff will be with is. If that isn’t bad enough, it was just revealed Monday that since Jeff has not worked much over the past several months, his financial condition is as bad as his health. I figured the best thing to do is what we do best…organize an event to not only honor Jeff and raise a few bucks, but to do what he always promoted within our club…have some fun with our vehicles. Steve Stillwell and Ed Oe of Pickups Limited, Orange County chapter are also working on this project with me.

This event is called Jeff’s Fun Run and I know it sounds familiar to many of you that have been around street rodding in Southern California. I remember Tom’s Fun Run from the event’s later days. It was great to fill the old Primedia parking lot with a ton of cars to remember Tom McMullen and to do what we do best…drive those babies! Most of us that participated in that event really miss it and have always talked about having another one. With this event we will do our best to mimic that great event.

What am I asking of you guys?
To spread the word any way you can. This is a true test for the Internet and e-mail. I want to have as many Classic Trucks, Hot Rods, Lead Sleds, Rat Rods and whatever else on the road on January 31st for this event.
To come to the event. I know that you all have something in the garage that is cool and ready to go. If you don’t, you know where to fine a ride don’t you? Any type of model of cool car is OK with us…Import or domestic. As long as it runs and is safe on the road.
If you are a member of a club, please do what you can to give it a bit of space in your newsletter. After this year, I would like to see the event perpetuate and become a fund raiser for Cancer research.
Dig through that box of goodies items I know is kicking around under your desk or in the garage and see what you have. I know how tight budgets are right now so anything new we can come up with that could be used I a raffle is appreciated. This event is a Poker Run and I need a grand prize and any other items that could be used in a raffle.

I know the time is quite short on this and I appreciate anything you can do. Jeff is a great guy and hopefully he will be strong enough on Saturday January 31st to come out for a bit to see for himself what the power of the Hot Rod community is all about. I have attached a flyer for you to pass around and here are the details:
