Speedway Motors is pleased to congratulate the national winners of the 2013 Goodguys Speedway Motors Homebuilt Heaven and Traditional Homebuilt awards.
Gary Wallace has been named the 2013 Speedway Motors Homebuilt Heaven winner for his ’53 Chevy Bel Air convertible, while Brock Gilmore has earned the 2013 Speedway Motors Traditional Homebuilt prize with his ’28 Model A roadster pickup. Both winners were selected by popular vote from among the Homebuilt Heaven and Traditional Homebuilt award recipients selected at all 19 Goodguys events in 2013.
Wallace drove his Bel Air drop top over to Nashville for the 2013 Goodguys Nashville Nationals, where the bright red cruiser earned its initial Homebuilt Heaven pick. Resting on an Art Morrison chassis, rolling on five-spoke American wheels and powered by a big block Chevy, the sharp Chevy boasts a professional level of detail and a bright red leather interior to match the paint.
Gilmore’s roadster pickup captured its Traditional Homebuilt pick at the Goodguys Heartland Nationals in Des Moines. The bright blue beauty gets its traditional appearance thanks to white accents (grille insert, suspension, upholstery) and a red small-block Ford engine topped with vintage Thunderbird valve covers and air cleaner. Red wire wheels wrapped with wide whitewalls help complete the look.
To commemorate their wins, both Wallace and Gilmore will receive a $500 Speedway Motors gift card, plus a personalized Speedway Motors jacket. Both cars are also featured in the 2014 Goodguys Yearbook.
With the 2014 Goodguys event season already underway, Speedway Motors returns as the proud sponsor of the Homebuilt Heaven and Traditional Homebuilt areas and awards at each of the 19 Goodguys events this season. The sponsorship is certainly fitting, as Speedway Motors has built its 62-year reputation as America’s Oldest Speed Shop by offering high-quality products to hands-on rodders who wrench on their own rides rather than pay a shop to do the work. Got a cool homebuilt cruiser that you’d like to show off? Be sure to enter it in the special Homebuilt Heaven parking area at your next Goodguys show for your chance to take home a pick.
