From: Ernie Nagamatsu, owner of the Spurgin/Giovanine Roadster.
I just watched the short S-G Roadster film clip and was moved once again by the achievements of Chuck Spurgin and Bob Giovanine with the help of the Albata Club to achieve their dreams and establish a record for the record books. The hallmark was the breaking of the established record in 1948. In each of the 6 SCTA Dry Lakes Meets at El Mirage in the day where durability certainly was the mitigating factor in racing the car set a new record. Ernie and Elaine
KEEPER OF THE FLAME: Spurgin/Giovanine Roadster. "Racing swiftly in the swirling dust from the clay pans of the El Mirage Dry Lakes of Southern California in the SCTA racing season of 1948, flashed the black and shiny aluminum nose Roadster. The innovative Spurgin/Giovanine Roadster, which was the legendary Albata Club Dry Lakes Land Speed racer, that established one of the most incredible records ever in Dry Lakes racing history. The sleek S-G Roadster broke the existing SCTA record in each of the 6 consecutive SCTA meets in the 1948 SCTA Dry Lakes racing season. It was the little Chevy 4 that thought it could, and it did."
We just received a call from Curt Giovanine and he said that they just announced that the 1948 SCTA Champion Spurgin/Giovanine Roadster has been just elected into the prestigious Dry Lakes Hall of Fame. We received an official letter from the Dry Lakes Hall of Fame Committee that the Spurgin/Giovanine Roadster is confirmed as an inductee into the Hall of Fame. There will be a special SCTA Hall of Fame induction Ceremony held on April 17, and the Spurgin/Giovanine Roadster will to be there on April 17, 2015. It is always so moving to watch the short video of Chuck Spurgin and Bob Giovanine and see their dreams achieved long ago and the families re-uniting with the Spurgin/Giovanine Roadster once again You can watch a short film clip of our 1948 SCTA Champion, the Spurgin/Giovanine Roadster here: http://vimeo.com/7447847.
