Darryl and Amy Mullens purchased his '63 Chevrolet Nova more than 41 years ago and it has been a labor of love ever since. The car underwent numerous changes throughout its life to eventually getting to what it is today; a dream car. Darryl and Amy maintained their focus, which landed them the PPG Dream Car Award at Goodguys 24th Heartland Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa.
Under the hood of this beauty sits a Hilborn-fed, Dyers-blown, MSD-sparked 355 Chevy V8 with a Howards 4340 crank spinning Carrillo rods with Wiseco pistons and an Isky cam. Trick flow heads vent through 2 1/2-inch HPC-coated headers massaged by Darryl’s old friend Dan Dubs. Multiplying the horsepower is an equally stout 700R4 automatic gearbox.
“Des Moines was my first rod & custom event showing a car in 30 years,” Darryl said. “It was a dream weekend. The only thing missing was Amy. She had to stay home for work. But she was here with me in spirit!”
Although Amy Mullens couldn;t make the trip I'm sure she was more than excited to see Daryl and their labor of love take home ethe gold.
