It's been two years... the longest two years...since we've seen land speed racers scream across the Bonneville Salt Flats during Speed Week and man are we ready for its return.
Run by the good folks at the Southern California Timing Association, Bonneville is one of the most anticipated parts of the year for the speed demons and streamliner freaks, but the weather the past two years has dashed hopes, and created mud puddles out of dreams.
It's no wonder that, this close to the 2016 event, people are bouncing off the walls in anticipation of bouncing off the salt.
Triumph motorcycles is planning to shoot for a new world record with its streamliner. Danny Thompson is trying for 500 mph in a piston-engined car, namely his dad's (Mickey Thompson) 1968 Challenger II. Valerie Thompson is already out there testing the BUB 7 streamliner for the Mike Cook Bonneville Shootout in September. And of course, the new version of the Speed Demon is ready to rumble.
Speedweek starts August 13 and we'll do our best to keep you all up to date.
