Just an update on the 1938 Dodge #38 dirt track race coupe. For the last two race seasons we have been out on the track. We got the car put together and Joined the "Midwest Jalopies" vintage racecar club.
Every little race Demond showed up. Yea, we raced a little and broke a lot. But always keeping determined to be competitive. As the season went we never lost hope in the old car. A few turns of the wrench and a bit more money things are looking better. The little old racecar caught the interest of quite a few sponsors, gat a new paint job and a whole New attitude. Chris Gillmore and I are co-owners of the 38 Dodge with Chris Behind the wheel we are having a lot of fun and now we are winning a few races.
We found the history about the car. It race In Iowa and Illinois back in the 50's with a flat head Dodge six cylinder. There were two of these cars that were just alike. One with the flat head six and the other with the old Hemi. Been told this car had a Hemi for a short time also. Found many old photos and we have spoke with some of the people from the old race days.
It is amazing the interest these old racecars create. I am glad the people involved take such an interest in keeping the old days of racing around for everyone to enjoy.
We are looking foreword to the upcoming season and hope to see everybody at the track.
After two seasons of building, going to races and rebuilding, We have a vintage race car that has a win or two that brought the old car back to life. We found a lady that grew up next door to the original builder and has filled us with all kinds of photos and history. We are members of "Midwest Jalopies" and race at tracks in North East Iowa and have traveled to Illinois. The Midwest Jalopies Vintage Race Car Club has been very active in bringing excitement to the fans. YES, We race to win, not just parade around the track. We keep it clean and safe BUT, there is plenty of competion. Drag out those old racecars and look us up if you are close and bring life back to that old coupe or sedan, believe me, the old car will like being young again.
